Kol Skywalker was a descendant of the legendary Anakin Skywalker and his son, Luke Skywalker, more than one-hundred years after Luke Skywalker rebuilt the Jedi Order. As a Jedi, Kol Skywalker disliked politics and preferred to spend more time training Jedi than dealing with diplomacy. It was for this reason that Kol could be found more often at the Jedi Temple on Ossus than the temple on Coruscant. Additionally, Kol was a pragmatist and new that evil had to be met with force and made sure that the Jedi he trained understood the ways of war as a way of achieving peace.

Jedi, teacher, Kol Skywalker was also the father of another heir to the Skywalker legacy - that of Cade Skywalker. On Ossus, Kol had the pleasure of watching Cade grow into a fine young Jedi, apprenticed to Kol's close friend, Jedi Master Wolf Sazen. Sadly, when Cade was still young, a Sith Lord by the name of Darth Krayt, in legion with the Empire, waged war against the Jedi and like the Sith of old initiated a purge against the Jedi order.

Sending his forces against the Jedi Temple on both Coruscant and Ossus, Krayt hoped to exterminate every Jedi, and it fell to Kol and Master Sazen to defend the temple on Ossus from attack. The assault was led by Darth Nhil who sent hoards of Sith warriors and stormtroopers against the Jedi. The ferocity of the attack necessitated that the Jedi evacuate the temple or be killed. Kol and Wolf held off the Sith in order that Cade and Shado gather the younglings to get them off-planet.
